Save Art in TAFE rally Coffs Harbour 14 November

SAVE CREATIVE COURSES IN
TAFE
To friends and supporters of creative industry on the mid-north coast,

The O'Farrell State Government's cuts to TAFE, beginning with withdrawal of funding for creative industry courses, (courses deemed unimportant and not leading to 'real jobs') threatens the future of emerging creative talent and creative industry in NSW. Our local TAFE in Coffs Harbour has grown to become an institution that delivers quality art education across the creative spectrum, with courses such as furniture design, fashion design, digital media, visual art and ceramics to name a few.

At the moment these courses are accessible for many on the mid north coast who couldn't afford the high fees (up to $10,000 or more) that cuts will force TAFES to implement.
It's estimated that 70% of artists in NSW train through the TAFE system. Expensive fees will leave emerging talent from high schools across the state with nowhere to go and threatens to disconnect current pathways and credit transfers to University.

Tourism on the Mid North Coast depends on our creative people who make a living, both large and small, out of their creative pursuits. TAFE fosters and encourages new talent with positive teachers who are practising makers and artists. Please forward this email to other friends and supporters of creative industry.

Please come and show your support for TAFE and TAFE students.
